I’m Mary Beth Thompson, and I’m running for a seat on the Sequoia Union High School District Board of Trustees (Zone B) because I believe in the power of education to transform lives. As a dedicated educator with 15 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the profound impact that a strong, supportive educational environment can have on students. Now, I’m eager to bring that experience and dedication to a larger platform, where I can advocate for all students in our district.

 

Throughout my career, I have always asked myself one guiding question: Is this what’s best for students? This question has driven me as a teacher, administrator, and now as a principal with Summit Public Schools. It’s this same commitment that I want to bring to the school board, where I can work to ensure that every student has access to the resources, opportunities, and support they need to succeed. Our students deserve a board member who not only understands the challenges they face, but is also committed to addressing them head-on.

 

My campaign is built on a simple yet powerful idea: “An Educator for Education.” I believe that having someone with extensive experience in education on the board is essential for making informed decisions that truly benefit our students. I understand the critical role that educators play in student success and have seen firsthand how the national teacher shortage impacts students the most. I also deeply value community engagement, recognizing that strong relationships between students, parents, teachers, and the broader community are key to creating a district that is responsive to the needs of all its stakeholders. This role is fundamentally about education, and I am uniquely qualified to navigate the complexities of our school system to ensure that all students are valued, supported, and equipped for future success, with a district dedicated to the success of every student.

 

While I am proud to be supported by several key community members, including several school board members, I know that a successful campaign relies on the collective efforts of our community. I’m confident that with your support, we can make a real difference in the lives of our students.

 

Running for the school board is more than just a campaign for me; it’s a continuation of my lifelong dedication to education. I’m excited about the opportunity to expand my impact and to ensure that every student in our district has the chance to thrive. I invite you to join me on this journey.
